Earlier tonight I watched Nelly perform on "MadTv." Why do rappers always feel the need to have 10 people on stage with them? All they do is repeat what the rapper says. How many people do you need to do that? They serve no purpose other than to clutter up the stage. It's enough of an eyesore to see gold and silver flashing in the mouth of the rapper; we don't need to be blinded by them as well.
Yesterday morning I watched a program on A&E called "Travels with Harry." One of the segments on the show talked about how hard it is for people to get to church while they're on vacation, which causes a substantial dip in church attendance during the summer. To combat this problem, many vacation spots have bought the churches to the people. The show profiled a boating church, ski church, and even a surf church. Whether people were in the water or on the slopes, the minister would go where they were and conduct service. I think it's a cool idea, but something disturbed me about the segment.
The segment often focused on how stuffy and uninviting traditional church services are. The host mentioned it, the reporter mentioned it, even the people interviewed mentioned it. One of the women interviewed said she liked the services because they weren't traditional and religious. What is a church supposed to be if not religious? What in the world was she there for?
It bothers me that people don't realize what a Christian church is supposed to be like. You're not there for a fashion show or to make yourself feel good. Too many people focus on how services make them feel when they should be focusing on worshipping God. That is the main purpose of a church service.
Another thing that bothers me is that people go to church, do their own thing, and leave. They don't get to know the people around them. That's how Sundays went for me before I joined my current church. Now I know the people I worship with. We meet outside of church. We become friends with each other and get to know everyone. That's the way the believers of the first century church did it. That's the way it's suppose to be. I think a lot of people would have a better perspective about church and God if it all were done properly in the first place.
Anyway, now that I'm done with that little rant, I should probably go to bed. It's early in the morning and I'm up watching "The Jetsons." It's another episode about Rosie mistakenly thinking the Jetsons are trying to get rid of her. There seem to be a couple of episodes like that (She's so sensitive!). Anyway, it makes me happy because Rosie is by far my favorite Jetsons character. I just love her New York accent and the way she calls George "Mr. J."
